I assume the comic book guys probably tape a whole lot of those at a time, and therefore use a tape dispenser. And if they buy the cheap refills at the office supply store, it's that shiny sticky tape that is almost more suitable as a packing tape than simply bagging comics.
I think you should do a commercial. We could do a comic commercial of you in SiP, like the Hostess cakes commercials they used to put in DC comics. Katchoo would swing in the window, Spiderman style, and say "why so sad, Drags?" and you would say, "aww, Katchoo, this awful packing tape just tore your face off of this cool back issue I bought!" Katchoo would say "that's because your comic store owner doesn't use Scotch!(tm). That's right, Scotch! (tm) holds those bags shut, but allows easy removal of the tape without excessive sticking. And best of all, Scotch! (tm) doesn't stick permanently to comics!" And Drags would say "Thanks, Katchoo! I'll tell my comic store owner that he needs some Scotch!(tm)."
Then Katchoo says "yeah, and while you're at it, tell him to tuck in his shirt! His butt is showing!"

LOL that was a good one GC we should 'both' go into advertising!
God that brings back memorys.I remember those Hostess ads in Marvel comics too,the one where these bank robbers were stealing twinkies from these kids and then Spidey swings in and saves the day and the kids start pigging out.Geez those old ads were funny.

I actually hate the tape on the bags. I have lots of Elfquests that I bought in back issues, which the shops had taped. The tape either sticks too well to the bag and stretches it when you try to open the bag, or it grabs the comic while you're pulling it out of the bag. So I have mine in bags and boards, but they're all open. That may or may not be the best for longterm preservation; I don't know. I'm not into selling, I just want to keep them in good shape for me.
And they are also all over the apartment. Branflakes, do you offer comic book gathering as part of your bagging and boarding service?

As a former comic store employee, I can tell you we used whatever tape they sold at the convenience store down the block
The only reason a shop bags the books is to give us something to put the price tag on.
We know that everyone rebags them, so we'd use the cheapest bags we had available, which is usually the kind that deform really easily(the thicker duller plastic, not the thinner, shinnier ones)
